In the midst of our travel plans from our squad debrief in San Jose, Costa Rica to our next ministry location in Guatemala, I found myself staying at an incredible guesthouse that operates to serve and host mission teams. This guesthouse is just ten minutes outside of Antigua and is surrounded by three volcanoes, Volcán de Agua, Fuego, and Acatenango. One of these three, Volcán de Fuego is active. And by active I mean, in the recent weeks it’s been spouting small eruptions just about every ten minutes, maybe even less. In the short thirty minutes I’ve spent attempting to write out my thoughts and God’s words to me, I’ve seen it erupt myself three times.
Sitting at the base of this volcano, admiring the beauty in its frequent eruptions, God revealed to me some truth about Him and our relationship.
Here’s the truth. This volcano is active. Whether I see it for myself or not, I can believe this volcano is active. The people that live in proximity to this volcano, people who see it every day, can testify to its frequent eruptions and the truth that it is indeed active. I have absolutely no reason or basis to doubt the words of these people but still I think to myself, “Is it really active? It sure would be cool to see for myself, and then I’ll really believe.”
Practically what do I need to do to make that happen? I must sit in sight of the volcano and wait and watch.
The same is true about my relationship with the Lord… I can believe everything there is to read in scripture. I can believe everything others who are walking with the Lord have experienced. But if I want to see for myself, there’s only one way to make that happen. I must sit myself at the feet of the Father, listen to what He says, and act in obedience.
I’m extremely excited to do just that and am so expectant to see the Lord move actively in this next ministry placement.
God has miracles already in the works for my team and our ministry partner. I fully believe this. Stay tuned, you’re not going to want to miss it!

Great analogy. I sit and wait expectantly with you!
Wow, what a great perspective that God gave you through a volcano. He’s pretty cool.
