So I have to raise $17,700 dollars to go on the World Race and I leave in October. I’m headed to 11 countries in 11 months, but where does that money go? What is it used for? Do I need to raise all of that money before I leave?

This isn’t the most exciting blog post but it is necessary! I’ve had several people donate to me so far and it makes me so thankful, but there’s still a long ways to go. Let’s get down to the details.

Field Support–$6,900 – This category covers the direct costs associated with the trip, including food, lodging, insurance, visas, communications, supplies, training camp, and debriefs.

Program Mobilization–$8,670 – Mobilization includes all direct costs associated with travel during the trip, whether that’s long distance travel by air, bus, train or boat and local transportation such as taxis, bus, metros, gas for host vehicles, etc.

Program Management–$2,120 – This category includes all costs associated with managing the World Race, including World Race staff and the cost of host development trips.

All of this money does not include daily expenses I will have on the race or the remaining gear and equipment I will have to get!

Again here are the countries I will be going to: Costa Rica, Panama, Ecuador, Peru, Chile, Japan, Taiwan, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, and Indonesia! Keep an eye out for blog posts highlighting our mission focuses and ministry partners in each country, coming soon!!

In order to help me reach these goals I’d love to build a community of financial support of 50 people, each contributing monthly at different levels! Would you like to invest in the work of God’s Kingdom around the world? Would you prayerfully consider joining my team of financial support by becoming a monthly contributor at one of the amounts below or an amount of your choosing?

$17,700 is a big number. It’s more than I’ve ever even imagined possible to raise in less than a year. Not to mention, I wouldn’t consider fundraising being something I’m particularly good at. Asking for/relying on financial support from others is actually the complete opposite of how I’ve learned to live life. For the last 5+ years or so, my entire life’s focus was getting my college degree to get a well-paying job so that I can support myself. I spent most semesters working 30-40 hours per week between multiple jobs/internships on top of my 18+ credit semesters in an attempt to make rent, student loan payments, and cover day-to-day living expenses, all in an effort to avoid taking out more student loans. To put things in perspective, that busy mess of a schedule to support myself feels like a walk in the park compared to fundraising. I’ve very quickly come to realize that fundraising is not something I can rely on my own means and abilities to accomplish. This support raising process is no more than a test of faith and one of the most instrumental parts of the faith journey on which the World Race takes you. I believe in the amazing work the Lord is doing around this beautiful Earth He’s created. I believe in the talents and abilities He’s given me to serve Him. I hear His calling to “Go and make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19). And most importantly, I believe that He will provide the means necessary to carry out His work.

Fundraising is certainly a humbling experience. It’s daunting dialing up numbers of people you haven’t seen in ages in order to ask them for support. You hope they don’t see you as just another person trying to solicit money from them, and struggle to find the words to convey that while still allowing them the opportunity to give. I know it can be awkward saying no, and believe me it’s awkward to ask, but if you’ve gotten a phone call from me, or receive one in the future, I hope you will extend me some grace and can see through to my heart and know my true intentions: I hope only to offer you an opportunity to store up for yourselves treasure in heaven by investing in His Kingdom work here on the earth.

It gives me chills when I sit down and think about this journey God is about to take me on, this journey He’s already started for me through support raising and preparation. God is changing things around the world and I simply asked to be a part of what He is doing. My all-time favorite Bible passage is Jeremiah 29:11 “’For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord.” All I can do is sit back, trust in Him, and say “Here I am, send me” (Isaiah 6:8). God is bringing that statement to fruition in my life. It’s SO cool to see! If you made it this far in reading all these details thank you! Thank you for being invested in God’s Kingdom, invested in me and having a desire to follow God’s work in what my team and I will be doing on this life-changing journey!
