It’s crazy to think that it’s been over a year and a half since I’ve graduated college and well over five years since graduating high school! How time flies! In the past five years I’ve been able to learn and grow so much, both in college and out the in the “real world” with my new job working as an accountant with a primary focus in the nonprofit industry. I’ve been blessed with some of the most amazing experiences in the last few years, some of which I still can’t believe God chose me to be a part of. There’s one experience in particular that sticks out in my mind and has helped shape me into the man I am today. This experience and the doors it has opened for me is why I feel the need to share a very exciting, new opportunity that has come my way!

In June of 2016, my life changed forever. I was given the opportunity to take part in a week long mission trip to the small, poverty stricken country of Haiti through an organization called Love Feeds OUR World. In that short week, I experienced a whole new culture one can only comprehend by experiencing it themselves. I witnessed suffering and devastation like I had never even thought imaginable. But through it all I felt more love in one place than I had ever before, from complete strangers that I had just met. Love Feeds opened and operates a school and church in the small village of Macomb, Haiti. Each day we had the chance to form bonds, give both physical and spiritual gifts, and spread the gospel to the children of the school, parents, and families of Macomb and the surrounding villages. I developed one particularly special relationship with a little boy named Jerry and before our trip was over had agreed to become Jerry’s sponsor, providing him a spot in the feeding program where he would receive a hot nutritious meal every day. This short trip opened my eyes to a whole new world of God’s people, prayer, contemporary Christian music, and most of all, a life of service, with which I quickly fell in love. So much so that I returned on Love Feeds’ next trip just two months later in August of 2016. And again in the summer of 2017. And again in 2018! I’ve now been to the country a total of four times and sponsor a total of four children for either the feeding or school programs offered by Love Feeds.

2019 was the first year since that first trip that I have not taken part in a trip to Haiti through Love Feeds. And while it was certainly a tough decision to make, I knew it was the right decision for me. Following my most recent trip in August of 2018, I felt a different calling, something outside of Haiti, and prayed for God to begin opening whatever new doors He’s been placing in my hallway of life. And that He did. He quickly provided me with various opportunities in the Milwaukee area. In the beginning of 2019, I began assisting Love Feeds in some of their more remote, administrative work. I began to get more involved with volunteer opportunities presented by my workplace. And He led me to join a new church, Victory of the Lamb, where I couldn’t be more thankful for how quickly I’ve been able to get involved with small group Bible studies, serving teams such as greeting and the worship band, as well as community events.

Despite all the amazingly wonderful opportunities, I still felt a particular calling to serve the world. I began searching for new and different mission opportunities and constantly asked God for guidance in pointing me in the right direction. And once again, He did just that. In September, I received the exciting news of my acceptance for a mission opportunity called the World Race through a nonprofit organization called Adventures in Missions. The World Race is an 11-month mission trip to 11 countries around the world. Through the World Race, my team and I will serve in partnership with churches and ministries in local communities to preach the Gospel, plant churches, work in orphanages, minister to women and children trapped in prostitution because of human trafficking, and bring hope of the Father’s love to many tribes and nations. For me specifically, this mission field includes the countries of  Costa Rica, Panama, Ecuador, Peru, Chile, Japan, China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, and Indonesia.

In the next 8 months or so until I embark on this journey, it is my mission to build a community of support. And I would like to invite you to join me in this community in a few different ways. First and most importantly, I would love to have your spiritual support. It is my hope that you could keep myself and the team I will be serving with in your prayers both as we prepare for this journey and as we journey through the mission field God has set out for us. I’ve already been able to get to know the members of my squad through group chats, reading their blogs, and various video calls that we’ve been able to organize. It’s already very apparent to me that God has brought a very diverse and uniquely gifted group together and has incredible things in store for us. In addition to me and my team, I invite you to pray for the people we will come in contact with on our journey through the World Race. Pray that God prepares their hearts and minds to receive God’s message of love and forgiveness that we all may enjoy in the kingdom of God’s splendors.

Secondly, I would like to invite you to follow me on this journey, to see God’s hands and feet in action as we’re supported by the rest of the Body of Christ from afar. Please take a couple of minutes and sign up to become an email subscriber to my blog. I will be posting weekly and this will be the best place to find updates on where I am and how the trip is going. To do so, return to the home page of my blog and simply hit the “Subscribe for Updates” button right under my name!

Lastly, in addition to your spiritual support, I am needing to raise $17,500 over the next year or so which will cover the cost of all transportation, food, housing, insurance, and many other miscellaneous costs of my trip. Please prayerfully consider supporting me during my journey. Any amount you feel led to give will help! Not to mention, all donations directly through Adventures in Missions are tax deductible (…suddenly realizing my nerdiness as I try to contain my excitement of including this…)!

There are two ways to donate financially:

  1. Via my blog link noted above. Once at my blog page simply hit the “Donate” button and follow the prompts that follow.
  2. By check. Please make all checks payable to Adventures in Missions with my name included on the memo line. If you’d like to donate via check, shoot me a message and I can send you a fundraising card to submit with your check that includes the address to mail the check.

I am beyond excited for this journey, and it is my hope that you can share in that excitement with me! Please consider supporting me and don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions you may have about my journey. I look forward to hearing from you!

With love,

Micah Torgerson
